I sit in front of a warped glass window trying to see what’s on the other side. The odor of rain or what I think is rain - falls off the split ends of the woman beside me and into my wine glass. The droplets run down the outside of the crystal making it easy for me to create sound with my fingers. The ringing O’s hum through the space between us like smoke rings. She peels the skin from her peach and rolls her fingers over it as if it were the satin sheets she made love in the night before. The shiny yellow flesh left behind tastes like melting snow in March when my sister opens her birthday presents.
